Signal vs. SR the battle of the toothpaste brands that never was

Growing up in the 80s and 90s we had 2 main toothpaste brands Signal and SR. Signal was a minty white paste with red stripes and SR was a minty white paste with no stripes (as I recall).

We used to be clearly in 2 camps either Signal or SR. This went on for years and still maybe exists to the present day.

The funny thing is someone who worked at Unilever back in the day told me that both SR and Signal were made in the same machine by the same company.

He said that when they were producing Signal they advertised Signal and when they were making SR they did the same.

So same machine, same company just advertised in a timely manner to sell toothpaste and the people bought it.

If you check your favourite brands even today they will be made by a handful of multinationals. We really need to see through the ads and realise what kind of mega corporations we are helping monopolise.

As Sri Lankans decide who should lead them next lets not get into a Signal vs. SR battle and rather pick something like Supirivicky which might produce a better future. 🇱🇰 🤔
