Weekend Notes #2

Eleventy is pretty simple static site generator which I love. I'm thinking of using it to build some simple sites. It's more of a developer tool than a hosted CMS but it can connect to most content management systems like WordPress.

Cargo cult programming is killing the Sri Lankan software industry is an eye opening post about how we adopt trendy tech without really understanding the fundamentals.

I've started using Plausible Analytics. It has the basics. Hopefully it'll be useful to use over multiple sites.

How I built a modern website in 2021 is the kind of stuff that keeps me up in the night. Kent has obviously gone overboard but I think that's the point.

I've been using camelcamelcamel.com to buy my kids cereal for half the price of my next door supermarket. I'm trying to balance my purchases to minimise deliveries and to send less rich people to space but 50% off is hard to walk away from.

GitLab is now a publicly traded company. It's an awesome tool and company. Good on them.

I've been Googling for NFC stickers. I wonder what I'm up to?

Mopidy is a music server. There is definitely a hardware theme here.

GitHub - rahul-thakoor/air-pi-play: Turn a Raspberry Pi into an Airplay server using RPiPlay to enable screen mirroring on tvs, monitors and projectors.

Machines of Distraction.. Striking a balance with social media… | by Angelo Fernando | Age of Awareness | Sep, 2021 | Medium. Facebook is having a hard time these days. We probably should quit it but you probably can't, so let's revisit this another time.

New South Sales is apparently opening up. We haven't got the go-ahead down in the victorian countryside with about 2000 cases a day but sure rub it in our face why don't you.

MeiliSearch: A Minimalist Full-Text Search Engine. Need to revisit MeiliSearch or move to Postgres.

Nestlé to Debut Plant-Based Eggs, Shrimp. I would trust a smaller company with this but sure.

Syncthing because Dropbox is getting bloated and most people have moved to Google Drive. Also read Computers as I used to love them @ tonsky.me.

Last but not least its good to see more Sri Lankan conversations starting to happen. Here is the first episode of Kuppi 🎉
